Ending the year on a high note, as we are celebrating our win of Local Authority of the Year 2018!
The panel of independent judges said the breadth of the council’s achievements for its communities is outstanding regardless of socio-economic and fiscal challenges. They added this is underpinned by strong, consistent and humble leadership and an unwavering mission to put the customer first.
The panel picked up on our teams providing innovative integrated health and care, cultural services, housing, poverty-reduction, digital transformation, highways management, children’s services, communications, homecare, revenue-generation and public health.
Chief executive Harry Catherall added: "These high profile awards are hugely important. Government and investors know that we are a council that can be trusted to do its very best for our people. It’s a great 20th birthday present for all of the people who remain firmly ambitious for this brilliant borough as well as celebrating the enormous success of those who help thousands of people and make a meaningful difference to our communities."

Our Council were celebrating a landmark 20th anniversary as a unitary authority. Everyone was able to watch the inspiring videos – one documenting the Council’s biggest achievements over the last two decades, and one taking a closer look at just some of the people who have been here for 20 years and in some cases quite a few more!
